Module 1: Understanding the basics

In this module you will gain a better understanding of what laryngopharyngeal reflux or LPR really is. We will use the who, what, where, when and how format to get you up to speed on all things “throat reflux”. We will also look at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Clinical research and treatment protocols are based on the current standards taught by the ACLM.

Module 2: Nutrition

This module will focus on the trigger foods. Most students have at least tried this form of reflux control but we will dive deeper into other reasons for throat irritation including pepsin. We will discuss at home remedies to inactivate pepsin. We finish off the module with a discussion on weight and a free app to help track progress for this module.

Module 3: Physical Activity

This module focuses on physical wellness and physical activity. Strategies to get more physical activity and improve mental health and wellness will be outlined that have transformed my patients’ lives. Another free app will be introduced to track progress.

Module 4: Sleep & Stress Management

In this module, we'll explore clinical research on the connection between sleep and throat reflux, often overlooked but crucial for understanding overall health. We'll emphasize the importance of improving sleep quality and stress management techniques, highlighting the benefits of good sleep and ways to reduce stress through meditation. Additionally, we'll introduce a free app designed to guide meditation and stress reduction. By the end, participants will gain insights into optimizing sleep and managing stress for better well-being.

Module 5: Risky Substance Use

The shortest module will discuss avoiding substances that are both bad for our health and bad for throat reflux. We finish by tying all the concepts together and looking ahead to a clear throat.

After suffering with LPR, a chronic cough and hoarse voice for several years, having many Dr. visits and tests, and not many solutions, I came to visit Dr. Yost. Not only is he a knowledgeable and thorough Doctor, I felt I finally met a physician who understood why I was having the health problems with which I was struggling. I was especially happy to learn of his holistic approach to LPR. The course was easy to understand, it didn’t take much time each week, but gave clear measures to take, and little by little to get my LPR under control. Each week has 2 or 3 video modules to listen to – I had several “Ah Ha” moments when I finally felt I understood why I had the symptoms I do, and what I can do to correct them! The course helped me to find my trigger foods, to understand how diet, exercise, and stress reduction have a positive (or negative) effect on the body. Dr. Yost also suggests several apps for your phone, to help track diet, exercise, and mediation. The diet tracker was especially helpful, and eye opening once you realize what you are actually eating. And like many apps, having this information on your phone keeps it front and center, and is very helpful!

Making lifestyle changes can be difficult, however, if you have suffered long enough, please know change is possible! I highly recommend the course and recommended lifestyle changes! After implementing Dr. Yost’s course suggestions and weekly changes for 6 -8 weeks, my RSI score was greatly reduced, along with an 80% reduction in my cough.
